Here on the blog we often talk about what makes a great date outfit for a woman, but what about all the gorgeous men out there? As I have a serious lack of fashion sense when it comes to guys (like, really really bad!) I asked the team over at fashion and clothing website, The Idle Man, what they think is a great men’s first date outfit and here’s what they have to say:

We’ve all been there and we all know the drill.
You’ve done everything you can to secure a place in her diary. You’ve managed to convince the girl of your dreams that you aren’t a complete Neanderthal and now she is finally willing to go on a date with you. The tricky part? You now have to show this girl that you’re worth the time she’s taken out of her busy schedule to meet you. Nail this and you are one step closer to potentially being somebody’s boyfriend!
What to wear on your date?
First and foremost, don’t wear a suit.
This isn’t a job interview and you’re certainly not supposed to be at work. But if you really can’t help it, then fine, by all means, wear the suit. Just make sure you loosen your tie and lose the jacket – not literally!
Take into consideration where you’re going….
Because once you have this vital information dressing for the occasion will be made far easier. But regardless of location these commandments should always be remembered when dressing for a date.
• Thou shalt not wear-flip flops or crocs.
• Thou shalt not wear that gimmicky T-shirt your auntie bought you last Christmas.
• Thou shalt not wear shorts. Yes, that includes denim.
• Thou shalt not wear clothes you have grabbed from the laundry pile.
A women’s sense of smell is far higher than that of mans. Follow those simple rules and you’ll be able to lay the foundations of a great date night outfit successfully.
However, if you’re stuck for ideas, here’s an example of the ideal date ensemble you can use that’s bound to impress on a variety of occasions. Of course, if chinos aren’t your thing, then opt for jeans instead. And if it’s more of a casual affair, switch out the shoes for a pair of classic canvas trainers, and the shirt for a well-ironed crew neck T-shirt. It’s as simple as that. Good luck!
