China’s first matchmaking flight carrying 20 singles looking for love took off from Shanghai for Kunming in southwest China earlier this week. The event was hosted by the country’s budget carrier Spring Airlines who did it for employees after recognising they worked long unsociable hours making it tricky to meet someone special.
The 5-hour in-flight matchmaking event attracted 10 male and 10 female participants. The men were aged up to 39 and the women up to 25…proof if ever we needed it that guys like the younger ladies!
Apparently the event was so popular there is another in the pipeline. So, could a matchmaking flight come to the UK? To be honest, I can’t think of anything worse than being stuck on a 5 hour Ryanair flight from Stansted, leaving at an ungodly hour only to be stuck next to a single stranger whilst the smell of frozen pizza wafts through the air. Anytime you try and get it on the air stewards would be interrupting trying to flog you a £5 pack of pringles or a scratch card!
Still, i’m a firm believer you gotta give everything a go once so expect ‘Matchmaking flights’ to be coming your way soon….passports at the ready!
